Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWP's)
Theory - 4 Hours
Practical – 15 minutes per Participant
Mobile Elevated Work Platforms, (or MEWP’s) such as Self-Propelled Elevating Work Platforms and Self-Propelled Boom-Supported Elevating Work Platforms - formerly known as Aerial Lifts, Scissor Lifts, and Boom Lifts are just a few commonly used terms for MEWP’s. Effective March 2020, CSA-B354 and ANSI-A92, updated the standards that includes new classification of MEWP’s. They are now classified into two Groups – Group A and Group B. Group A are platforms that move vertically.; Group B are generally all other MEWP’s platforms (i.e. boom-type equipment). This updated MEWP program is compliant with both CSA and ANSI standards and is designed for new Operators, as well as those experienced Operators and Train-the-Trainers looking to refresh their certification. Training is also required for supervisors in charge of the site / worker.
Note: Participants will require Fall Arrest Training in order to successfully be deemed a competent operator.
MEWP Theory Training
Once completed, participants are required to pass a knowledge evaluation to demonstrate an understanding of the material. The theory portion of the MEWP program includes, but is not limited to:
MEWP Practical Training
Practical training includes a competency evaluation of each Operator. Trainers observe the Operators conducting tasks they would typically perform at the workplace and will be evaluated on how safely they perform these tasks. For new Operators, it is recommended that once the Theory portion of the program has been successfully completed, the participant return to the workplace and practice operating the machinery under the supervision of a Competent Operator.
